SHOPPERS can get hold of more bargains at Aldi as it slashes the price of some food by 30%.

The discount supermarket will reduce items with packaging imperfections, like dented tins.

Aldi is making the move in a bid to reduce food waste and it follows the introduction of a “bargain hour” earlier this year.

Stores have reduced items by up to 75% on their “last day of life” – though the exact time this happens depends on your local store.

Now the retailer is marking down prices on items that have damaged packaging.

Products like rice, pasta cereal and tinned foods will be reduced if they have imperfections.

The items available will vary from store to store, and discounts will be made as needed at Aldi’s 920 shops.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: “Shoppers hunting for the best deals already head to Aldi for the lower prices, but our latest reductions will help customers find even more bargains.”

“Not only that, but these discounts also help us to reduce food waste – an urgent issue which we are committed to tackling.”

Shoppers will be able to spot the discounts as they will be labelled with red markdown stickers.

Available in all stores, Aldi said it will help to reduce food waste.

Food sold in supermarkets must sill be okay to eat.

Several supermarkets reduce food that’s approaching its sell-by-date and flag the items with yellow stickers.

The stickers are also used on items that are damaged or for lines being discontinued.

Often there will be an entire shelf or section of the supermarket dedicated to these clearance bargains, but sometimes you can find them tucked away with full-priced items.

You can even get food from supermarkets for FREE using food waste apps.
