Aldi has revealed the location of 15 new stores it will open across the country by the end of the year.

The German discount supermarket, which currently has more than 930 UK stores, will be opening new stores in, among other locations, Bedlington, Edinburgh, Orpington, Poole and Windsor.

The rapidly expanding grocer said each new store will lead to the creation of around 30 new jobs.

The supermarket chain said store assistants will earn up to £10.57 nationally, and £11.32 inside the M25, with paid breaks included.

Ciaran Aldridge, national property director at Aldi UK, said: ‘There are still too many people for whom shopping at Aldi isn’t a convenient option.

‘We’re committed to changing that and opening nearly four new stores a week before Christmas clearly demonstrates our progress with this.’

The 15 new stores form part of Aldi’s drive to invest over £1.3billion into expanding its retail estate portfolio and open 100 new stores over the next two years.

In October, the chain opened new stores in Cheltenham, Portlethen and South Harrow.

It also recently opened its 50th London store in Dalston as it continues to invest in expanding its presence in the capital.

Last month, Aldi revealed the locations of swathes of areas it is looking to purchase developments in.

The chain said it was on the lookout for new freehold developments in town centre locations or ‘edge-of-town’ hubs ‘suitable for property development.’

Looking to expand all over the country, Aldi has its sights sets on securing new stores in, among other locations, Penzance, Guildford, Cheltenham, Milton Keynes, Macclesfield, South Shields, Peebles and York.

In Wales, the supermarket chain is vying to snap up sites ripe for development in Aberdare, Barry and Lampeter, while in the East of England it wants to open stores in Basildon, Brentwood and Hitchin.

The supermarket said it needs sites that are big enough to accommodate a 20,000 square foot store and around 100 dedicated parking spaces, ‘preferably on a prominent main road and with good visibility and access’.

It will open a new logistics warehouse in Leicestershire, and has plans to expand its click-and-collect services further. The chain has also selected a site in Greenwich, London, for the opening of its first till-free store.

The supermarket, which does not publish like-for-like sales figures, said industry data suggested that around 60 per cent of households had shopped in an Aldi store at some point over the past year.
