ALDI has opened a new eco-friendly store – and it could help shoppers save money.
The German retailer‘s new store in Royal Leamington Spa will trial packaging-free products such as nuts and coffee at even lower prices.

The store opened today, September 29.
It’s important to note that not all prices will be lower – just the food that comes without packaging.
Shoppers will have to bring their own containers instead to fill up on these items – or use free eco-friendly paper bags.
Customers will also be able to use a new recycling point where they can dispose of items not collected by local authorities.
We’ve asked Aldi exactly what items shoppers can drop off at these units.
Some examples of things a number of local authorities won’t pick up to recycle are vehicle batteries and Christmas wrapping paper.
The store itself is made from sustainable building materials, including a partial green roof, and has solar panels to reduce energy consumption.
Aldi said the store will use 57% less energy compared to a normal shop – which will help lower its bills.

Customers who use electric vehicles will be able to use charging ports.
Aldi’s chief executive for UK and Ireland Giles Hurley said: “Many of the changes made to this store, whether it be the energy-saving initiatives or our latest packaging-free trial, could allow us to put even more money back into the pockets of our customers.
“We’re focusing on continuing to deliver our longstanding price promise by offering the lowest possible prices in Britain, every single day.”
It’s not the only big change Aldi has made recently.
The German retailer has announced it will remove best before dates from around 60 of its own brand products to help tackle food waste in homes.
Supermarkets including Asda, Waitrose, Tesco and Morrisons have already scrapped these best before dates on some of its products.
How else can I save money on my Aldi shop?
If you’re an Aldi shopper, there are nifty ways of bagging your shopping for less.
Look out for items with red stickers on – which are discounted items.
All of Aldi’s stores mark down fridge staples like bread, meat, fruit and vegetables by 75% the day before their sell by date.
Prices are slashed before stores close – so you’ll want to make sure you time your big shop right to get the discounts.
Keep an eye out for imperfect goods to get up to 30% off them.
Aldi knocks money off items that are not looking their best – such as dented tins and ripped paper packaging.
They’ll have red stickers on them too.
Every fortnight, Aldi picks six fruit and vegetables to offer to shoppers at lower prices.
And you can get “wonky” veg at Aldi where the more unattractive ones are offered for less money.
