The winning drink also achieved a Gold Outstanding marker.

The 70cl gin contains 40% alcohol and beat competitors including Edinburgh Gin’s Rhubarb and Ginger option.

The branded bottle costs £28 per 70cl – almost double the price of Aldi’s.

It also came first over the likes of Waitrose and M&S – who each sell 70cl of Warner’s Rhubarb Gin for £30-£36.

Judges praised Aldi’s bottle, describing it as “magnificently well balanced” with “rich flavours of mouth-watering rhubarb”.

In response to the win Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “We are extremely proud to have received the highest possible accolade for our own brand spirits.

“Now more than ever, we want to show that low prices don’t mean compromising on quality or taste.”

You can order Aldi’s gin online but you’ll need to click and collect – your nearest store will come up on the website’s store locator if you’re not sure.

It might be popular following the news, and you don’t want to end up disappointed.

The bargain brand picked up a total of 17 awards at the contest, including a Gold medal for its Glen Marnoch Limited Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

This retails at £17.49 per 75cl, and it was praised for its “lovely soft texture and solid length”.

And this isn’t the first time Aldi has won awards for its gin.

In 2019, its Greyson’s Seville Orange and Persiawon the prestigious “masters” title at the Spirits Business Gin Masters Awards.

It cost £14.99 at the time too.

The prize-worthy gin came up on top despite being £10 cheaper than rival brand Tanqueray’s Flor de Sevilla Gin.

And in both 2017 and 2018, the supermarket’s £9.99 Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin became a sold-out sensation when it won top prize at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) as well as the IWSC.

It beat brands such as Sipsmith, Beefeater and Gordon’s.
