Today, the home-sharing company decided to make the ban permanent.

The ban extends to “disruptive parties and events,” including open-invite gatherings.

Also banned are “chronic party houses,” or locations that are booked for single-night large events and gatherings.

At first, the ban was put in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Airbnb said it would be in place “until further notice” because many were hosting parties at a time when the country was shut down.

But now, the company says that a permanent party ban is “in the best interest of public health.”

“We believe there is a direct correlation between our implementation of the policy in August 2020 and a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports,” the company said in a blog post.

Airbnb officials also ntoed that the ban has been well-received by hosts, community leaders, and elected officials.

“‘As we build on this momentum, we believe the time is right to codify this policy.”

What about consequences?

The company made it clear that guests or hosts who violate the updated policies will be hit with “serious consequences”.

Such ramifications include account suspension or even full removal from the platform.

Airbnb revealed that in 2021 over 6,600 guests were suspended from the site for attempting to violate the temporary party ban.

“This new and long-term policy was enacted to help encourage and support community safety,” Airbnb said.

“We look forward to sharing updates in the coming weeks and months on our efforts to complement our community policies on parties.”

In other news, Airbnb recently lifted a restriction on the number of guests a property can host.

In 2020, the company decided to limit guest occupancy to 16. But now larger properties can house 16 or more people, per Mashable.
