US warns citizens to leave airport gates and not to travel to airport; White House says the next few days of evacuation operation likely to be the most dangerous

The statement posted to the US Embassy in Afghanistan website reads:

Because of security threats at the Kabul airport, we continue to advise U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to the airport and to avoid airport gates.

U.S. citizens who are at the Abbey gate, East gate, North gate or the New Ministry of Interior gate now should leave immediately.

The embassy also said citizens should avoid traveling to the airport because of security threats.
