Debenhams is flogging items at rock bottom prices in final sales across 97 of its stores.

The struggling retailer has only welcomed back customers in a bid to shift stock before closing branches permanently.

Prices of items have been slashed by up to 80%.

It will be closing 16 stores forever today, with the rest to close in waves by May 15 at the latest.

The lucky shopper saved a whopping £1,260 (93%) on her kings sized bed at her local branch.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn’t mean it’s always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
  • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
  • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

She said the price was so low because the bed used to be on display at the store.

Staff even threw in the mattress for free, she said.

Because the bed was a display item, it means you probably won’t be able to find the same deal at your local branch.

The shopper posted that she was “very happy” about the find, which was her “best bargain ever” on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.

Over 13,000 impressed shoppers commented and liked the post.

One said it was a “mega bargain” while another said it was a “fantastic find”.

Even though you might not be able to find exactly the same offer, there are tricks to getting big discounts when you’re out shopping.

It’s worth asking staff which aisles clearance items are located on if you can’t spot any.

If there aren’t any deals in store that day, staff may be able to give you the heads up on when the shop’s next sale will be going ahead so you can add important dates to your diary.

It’s also worth shopping either early in the morning or late at night for deals and discounts to get the best bits.

This is when staff are most likely to start shifting stock – especially if it’s food.

Online shoppers should also sign up to retailers’ newsletters to get advance warning of any upcoming deals and sales.

Debenhams isn’t the only high street giant holding mega sales.

B&M has slashed the price of ALL indoor furniture by 10% over the Bank Holiday as part of a flash sale ending tomorrow.

The discount retailer said it “rarely” holds sales, so you might want to make the most of the lower prices if you need new bits for your home.

Very is also having a big bank holiday sale that will run up until May 6, and you can get TVs, sodas and vacuum cleaners for less.

Savvy shoppers have shown off mega Debenhams closing down sale hauls – including one who got £118 worth of jumpsuits for £4.

Here’s a little-known way to find out about Primark bargains WITHOUT having to visit a branch.

Boots is also holding a massive sale with up to 70% off items like Yankee Candles.
