BORIS Johnson has put England into its third lockdown, but caffeine addicts can still get their Costa hit.

The PM ordered everyone to stay at home until mid-February to fight the spread of a new variant of Covid.

Schools and non-essential shops must close for six weeks under a raft of new restrictions.

You can still get your Costa coffee boost, but what are the rules in place? We explain everything we know so far.

Is Costa open during lockdown?

Costa can still open under the latest coronavirus restrictions.

However, you won’t be able to sit in to have your drink or snacks.

Hospitality venues, including cafes, can serve food and drinks for takeaway only.

You can also use Costa drive-thrus, get your order delivered, or use the Costa Coffee app.

And Costa Express machines will also remain operating for customers out on essential journeys.

If you order in store, then you must wear a mask, unless you are exempt.

Social distancing policies are in place too.

When will Costa open during lockdown?

Costa has confirmed to The Sun that there will be no changes to store opening or closing times for now.

Opening times for stores vary depending on which one you visit.

Throughout the year, most high street Costa branches typically open anywhere between 6am and 7am, Monday to Saturday, and shut between 7pm and 9pm.

Sunday hours are usually 10am to 4pm.

Coffee shops located in train stations and airports operate much longer hours, opening as early as 4am and closing as late as 11pm.

There are also drive-thrus, some of which open 24-hours throughout the year.

But under lockdown rules, all drive-thrus must close by 11pm.

Some Costa Coffee drive-thru’s may close earlier than this.

It’s best to check when your local store opens or closes with Costa’s store locator.

Costa Coffee initially shut its doors during the first lockdown last year.

But after an initial trial in April, stores began to open after that.

By May, 79 branches were open.
