M&S sales over the past 12 weeks were 11.9% higher than a year earlier
Food sales at Marks & Spencer are growing twice as fast as they are at Aldi.
In another sign the middle class favourite has got its mojo back, sales over the past 12 weeks were 11.9 per cent higher than a year earlier.
By contrast, sales were up 6 per cent at Aldi and 10.4 per cent at Lidl. Only Ocado – another staple of Middle England – saw faster growth than M&S with sales up 12.2 per cent.
The figures, from market research group NIQ, underlined the scale of the turnaround at M&S under chairman Archie Norman and chief executive Stuart Machin.
M&S Shares rose 3.8 per cent, and although they are down 17 per cent from this year’s peak, they are up more than 150 per cent since late 2022.
Dine-in meal deals for Valentine’s Day and offers around Pancake Day and Chinese New Year helped push up sales.
Private equity owned Morrisons and Asda continue to struggle with sales up 3.6 per cent and 2 per cent respectively. Tesco saw growth of 6.8 per cent and Sainsbury’s 8 per cent.
M&S has staged a dramatic comeback in recent months with clothing sales also rebounding.
