COSTA Coffee has revealed it will be opening 11 new branches in Sainsbury’s supermarkets. 

The coffee chain will open new cafe sites inside Sainsbury’s supermarkets throughout the year.

The collaboration between the two brands will allow customers to take a break during their shopping and provide a place for them to connect with friends and family. 

Costa has spent over £3million on the investment and the new stores will create over 100 job opportunities.

The Costa cafe in the Sainsbury’s Farlington Superstore branch, opened last week on Thursday, February. 

The new cafe has already provided seven new jobs. 

The newly designed branches will serve the same hot and cold drinks and beverages you would in a standard Costa coffee branch.

The move builds on the coffee chain’s ongoing partnership with the supermarket giant with more than 1,000 Costa Express machines in its stores and petrol stations which sold 10m cups of coffee in 2023 alone.

Why has Costa been closing branches?

Over the past few months, the popular chain has been plagued by store closures up and down the country. 

Many food and drink retailers have been struggling to bounce back after the pandemic, only to be hit with soaring energy bills and inflation.

Costa closed 11 branches in the second half of 2023 and another four this year. 

So far the coffee said has confirmed another store in Birmingham is due to close this March.

Costa announced an exciting new range of menu items last month including hot milkshakes and Heinz beans & cheese toasties.

What is the Costa rewards scheme?

If you sign up for the Costa coffee rewards scheme you can get a free medium size drink after you buy ten coffees.

You will need to download the Costa Club app so you can scan your drinks a collect a bean for each medium purchase.

However, if you bring in a reusable cup for your coffee, you can get two beans for every drink ordered – meaning you can get a free coffee every four drinks.
