ANDROID owners will soon have the ability to edit texts, a feature WhatsApp and iPhone users have had access to for years.

It is not yet fully functional, as it was discovered by hawk-eyed Android expert AssembleDebug in the latest beta release of Google Messages.

However, AssembleDebug explained in a blog post that once it is full working order, the feature can be accessed by long-pressing a message that users want to correct.

Google could roll out the feature to millions of users as early as late February, according to AssembleDebug, which is just days away.

Alternatively, it may be launched early next month.

It’s important to note that the option to edit sent texts in Google Messages will only come to RCS conversations, not regular text messages.

Despite being around for a few decades, SMS does not support editing sent text messages.

In August, Google Messages finally adopted RCS – the next generation of SMS.

This means the chat-app can now let users send Ultra HDR pictures in the high quality they were taken in.

Previously, the messenger squashed the quality down to make images easier to send.
