One savvy shopper who spotted the cut-price Christmas tree posted the offer to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group.

The post read: “Now that’s a bargain, there must have been 20 of them too in Waitrose Weston super Mare.”

But not everyone in the comments was as pleased to see the trees at such a discounted price.

One person said: “What a waste to cut down a living thing for 2p”.

And another commented: “When will the shops learn not to overstock in the first place”.

While another added: “Why not just give it away?”.

However, some people thought it was a good idea, with one saying “It’s better than burning it like most Christmas tree places do”

Another shopper said: “The tree has already been cut so it doesn’t matter if it’s sold for 2p or £60.”
