One savvy shopper who spotted the cut-price Christmas tree posted the offer to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group.

The post read: “Now that’s a bargain, there must have been 20 of them too in Waitrose Weston super Mare.”

But not everyone in the comments was as pleased to see the trees at such a discounted price.

One person said: “What a waste to cut down a living thing for 2p”.

And another commented: “When will the shops learn not to overstock in the first place”.

While another added: “Why not just give it away?”.

However, some people thought it was a good idea, with one saying “It’s better than burning it like most Christmas tree places do”

Another shopper said: “The tree has already been cut so it doesn’t matter if it’s sold for 2p or £60.”

Someone else suggested that it is a “great idea” for those people who may not have been able to afford a Christmas tree, to be able to get one at such a low price in time for the big day.

Meanwhile, others were saying that Homebase is giving its trees away for free but did not mention which location this was.

This week has seen many retailers slashing their prices, one B&M shopper managed to bag a deal on a “beautiful” Christmas tree.

The item was originally priced at £110 but reduced to just £40 in the discounters pre-Christmas sale.

You will need to be quick though, as the offer ends when the shops close this evening.

Boots also has some great offers for perfume fans, with some fragrances almost half-price.

Meanwhile, Next has confirmed its winter sale will start earlier this year, with the promise that shoppers will get at least 50% off.

In previous years shoppers have flocked to Next stores on Boxing Day at 6am to grab a deal.

But they year keen bargain hunters can do so from the comfort of their own home
