It’s all fun and games, until it’s not – at least according to the fine print in the PS5’s safety guide.

There are two warning signs that mean it’s time to put the controller down and switch your console off.

The first situation is the result of a very easy mistake to make.

It’s important that you keep your console well ventilated.

Gamers will often tuck their consoles out of the way, including inside TV cabinets.

But it’s important to make sure you’ve got sufficient airflow or you could be in trouble.

“Do not use the console in a closed cabinet or other locations where heat may build up,” Sony explained.

“Doing so may cause the console to overheat and may lead to fire, injury or malfunction.”

Thankfully you should receive a pop-up before your console reaches extreme temperatures.

Don’t ignore this: it could save you from a serious issue, so turn the PS5 off and stop playing for a while.

“If the console becomes too hot, you will see a notification message on your screen,” Sony said.

“In this case, turn off the console and wait until it cools down.

“Continued used may lead to damage or malfunction.

“After the console cools down, move it to a well-ventilated location that is not subject to high temperatures before resuming use.”

Sony also recommended keeping your PS5 out of direct sunlight when it’s in use.

And avoid using it when humidity is very high too.

The second situation is harder to notice, so you’ll need to stay alert.

You need to make sure that your AC power cord is intact and in working order.

Otherwise you might find that you end up with a serious issue.

And if you notice a problem, it’s best to stop playing immediately.

“Regularly inspect the AC power cord for damage and dust build-up around the power plug or electricity supply,” Sony noted.

“Stop use, unplug the AC power code from the electricity supply and disconnect any other cables immediately if the device functions in an abnormal manner, produces unusual sounds or smells or becomes too hot to touch.”
