CHOCOLATE giant Mars has shrunk its Galaxy bar — months after increasing the price.

The Smooth Milk chocolate bar has gone from 110g to 100g and costs up to £1.50.

Mars blamed the shrinkflation on the rising costs of raw materials and operations.

It said it was not a decision that was taken lightly but insisted it was necessary.

A spokesman said: “We have been actively trying to find ways to absorb the rising costs of raw materials and operations, as we know the increase in the cost of living has impacted both consumers and businesses.

“Unfortunately, the growing pressures mean more needs to be done.”

One disappointed social media user said: “What a shame as I liked a Galaxy chocolate bar.

“They’ve now lost a customer.”

Another said: “Again?

“There’ll be more chocolate in a Galaxy from a Celebrations box than the actual bar before long.”

The recommended retail price for a bar of the then 110g bar of Galaxy chocolate was raised from £1.39 to £1.50 in October.

Most supermarkets are now selling the 100g version for £1.25 but it costs £1.50 at Morrisons.

Mars is not the only chocolate manufacturer to shrink the sizes of their sweet treats.

Cadbury cut the size of its Dairy Milk sharing bar and bags of Buttons by almost a quarter — but kept prices the same.

It comes after The Sun reported this week that about 160million choccie bar sales have melted away in the past year.

Galaxy bars sold fewer than in the previous 12 months.
