So if you want to lighten the load, try these drying tricks instead . . .

SPIN IT TO WIN IT: Before you even think about hanging your laundry, make sure those heavier items, like jeans and bedding, get a little extra “spin” time.

Say goodbye to excess water and hello to faster drying.

HIGH AND DRY: Invest in a sturdy clothes airer, a ceiling-hung clothes “maid” or a wall-mounted rack. These nifty contraptions are your ticket to drying success.

Heat rises so the higher you can place them, the better.

HANGER MANAGEMENT: Coat hangers aren’t just for your wardrobe any more.

Attach them to your trusty drying rack to create more space for your garments. Less wrinkling and less ironing — it’s a win-win!

CHECK ’N’ CHANGE: Don’t leave your clothes hanging for too long!

Check on them every few hours and rearrange. This ensures every inch of clothing gets its fair share of drying time.

FAN-TASTIC IDEA: Remember those trusty fans from the summer heatwave? Place one strategically in front of your laundry to speed up the drying process if you are in a rush to dry your items. Another option is to use a dehumidifier to get rid of moisture in the air.

A budget version is the Mighty Power Moisture Trap dehumidifier, £1.40, Poundland.

HEAT IT UP: Heated airers are a great way to dry clothes fast. They’re efficient, budget-friendly and you can currently get one at wowcher.co.uk for £34.99 instead of £69.99.

Plus, they add warmth to a room during colder months.

Safety note: Don’t dry damp clothes on storage heaters or convector heaters.
