BANK Holidays’ can disrupt important services, one being bin collections.
Here, we explain how different councils will deal with the Bank Holiday, and when you can expect your bins to be collected.
When are the bin collection dates over the May Bank Holidays?
This can differ between councils, as some will have different approaches.
For example, Sevenoaks District Council bin collection dates will be a day later for the duration of the week of the Bank Holiday.
Havering London Borough, however, will not change the collection dates of communal bins for residents in flats.
However, Orange and black sack, clinical waste, bulky waste service and garden waste service collections will change to a day later than normal.
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council will not be changing their bin collection dates for the early May and Spring Bank Holidays.
Many councils will push their collection dates back by one day to accommodate the Monday Bank Holiday Dates.
Norwich residents, however, should note that if your usual collection date is May 1, 2023, it will be brought forward to April 29, 2023.
So those whose bins are collected from May 2, 2023, onwards, there will be no change that week.

There should still be bin collections on the date of the King’s Coronation.
However, this could all be subject to change, so check your local councils’ websites for any updates to ensure your bins are ready for collection at the right time.
When will my bin collection resume to normal days?
This depends on your local council and what they have decided.
However, with the early May Bank Holiday and the extra Bank Holiday for the coronation being so close together, normal services should resume by May 15th, 2023.
As previously mentioned, councils who aren’t collecting over the May Bank Holidays will push their days back by 24 hours to accommodate this.
It’s best to check on your local council website in order to check what is going on.
