Shops that are bigger than 280 square metres in size must be closed on Easter Sunday, because of a rule upheld by the UK Government.

Due to this legislation, supermarket chains such Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco will have to close there doors for the whole day.

This also affects large hardware stores such as B&Q and Homebase, as they are larger than the maximum size allowed.

This does not apply to Scotland however, as there are no restrictions on trading over Bank Holiday’s.
