BT’S email service suffered an outage just as people woke up to check their inbox on Friday morning.

Some customers apparently had problems accessing their account.

“BT email is apparently down,” one user tweeted at the time.

“I can’t log into my BT. Is there an outage?” another said.

“Can’t login to BT online at all,” a third added.

It’s not clear what caused the issue.

The Down Detector site had a huge spike in online complaints at around 8am.

It received hundreds of reports.

BT’s own website was open about the problem, saying the outage related to logging on via BT’s webmail site.

Those using an app on your iPhone or Android device were unaffected.

“We’ve had reports of a problem access BT Mail via webmail,” the site read.

“If you can’t access your email account via webmail, please use an Email client.

“We are working to establish what’s wrong and will provide updates soon. Sorry if you’re affected.”

The service has since been restored.

A spokesperson for the company told The Sun: “For a short time this morning some customers were unable to access their BT email.

“The issue was quickly fixed and broadband, landline and mobile services were not affected during this time.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
