Why is Venmo Me trending on Twitter?

On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, ‘Venmo Me’ became a trending topic on social media platform Twitter.

Venmo Me circulated after the money app crafted a tweet from their official account.

The popular app tweeted: “New year, new #VenmoMe. We’re giving out $10,000 today. RT this w/ your Venmo handle and you just might manifest $100, $250, or $500.”

Venmo continued: “Must follow @Venmo. No purch nec. Ends 1/5. US only, 18+. Venmo acct req’d. Rules: http://venmo.me/vm

What did Twitter users say about Venmo?

A vast amount of Twitter users responded to Venmo’s viral tweet on Wednesday, January 5.

People replied to the post with quote tweets and retweets along with their Venmo handles.

Many people replied with their Venmo usernames in hopes they would receive a sum of money to their accounts.

One user tweeted: “Good luck everyone & hope you all have good day! #VenmoMe.”

Another posted, “Crossing fingers,toes, arms, legs. Praying! #Venmo Me.”

“#VenmoMe I think everyone could use a little after the holidays,” tweeted one person.

What is Venmo?

Venmo is a money-sharing app, where users can send and receive money as well as make payments and purchase cryptocurrency. 

The company was founded in 2009 and is based out of New York City.

Owned by PayPal, Venmo is considered a peer-to-peer payment platform for mobile devices. 

Venmo can also be used as a way to pay freelance employees. The app offers its own MasterCard debit card as well. 

Previously, users were not allowed to receive money from a business transaction on a personal account, users had to have a business profile.

Users who don’t want to create a business profile are allowed to accept money for goods and services without violating Venmo’s policies – they just have to pay a small fee of 1.9 percent plus an additional ten cents per transaction.
