A TEACHER is furious after spending £30 on illuminated Christmas penguin statues — only to be sent 2D metal cut-outs with a stick attached.

Jessica Memery was tricked by an Amazon seller who used snaps of another firm’s acrylic figures.

She bought it for penguin-obsessed son George, 12. Jessica, of Portsmouth, Hants, said: “George’s one request was a Christmas penguin.

But he wasn’t so happy with a flat bit of shoddy metal with holes.”

The Amazon ad had claimed its “hand-crafted ornaments” with feather, eye and beak details had built-in lights “sure to dazzle and amaze the entire neighbourhood”.

Jessica stormed: “There’s nothing pleasing about the product.

“It’s not only a misrepresentation but I’ve now found out they stole the photos for their advertising – and I’ve wasted £25.99 plus the delivery charge.”

Jessica took jokes about her misfortune in good spirits after she warned people by posting “I didn’t read the reviews – there may have been wine involved”.

Jess Blears joked: “Are roadkill decorations the new Christmas thing this year.”

Another fooled penguin buyer Gemma Taylor said: “I was so smug to have found these for under £30, and when they arrived I couldn’t believe it.

“I’ve bought some crap in my time, but these are in the top three of the worst.”
