Indoors: A previous owner did a 2013 gut renovation that resulted in an open first-floor plan; the installation of reclaimed white-oak hardwood flooring and iron stair railings; a new kitchen; a sunroom with rear garden access; two second-floor bedrooms with a shared bathroom; a third-floor primary suite; and a finished basement. The plumbing and electrical systems were updated, and recessed lighting and Pella windows were added.

The sellers, who bought the property in 2014, contributed numerous improvements in finishes, fixtures and landscaping. They painted the exterior white with black accents, to bring uniformity to the mottled brick. They also added molding to several rooms. The powder room was papered with a custom Ellie Cashman wallcovering inspired by Dutch floral still-life paintings from the Golden Age, and the kitchen now has hand-hewn ceiling beams sourced from a farm in Amish country, soapstone countertops and brass hardware, including a vintage-style split faucet on the sink.

In the sunroom, off the kitchen, forest-green walls are complemented by a copper Tom Dixon pendant lamp. The upholstered banquette includes storage.

One second-floor guest room has been embellished with molding and painted black. The second, which is moss green, was turned into a media room and has a private deck that overlooks the garden. The bathroom, which can be reached from the guest room or the hall, includes a glass-walled shower and a floating vanity. A washer and dryer are in a closet, behind bifold doors.

The third-floor suite includes a bedroom with a wall of built-in storage (drawers and open shelving, with a dedicated portion for shoes). The bathroom has a shower, a soaking tub and a Restoration Hardware vanity with double sinks in front of a wall of brick that was exposed during the renovation. A toilet room is illuminated by a perforated copper Moroccan pendant light. The suite also has a walk-in closet.
