This home was designed by Wallace Frost, an architect responsible for the Michigan Governor’s Mansion and a number of residences in the Detroit suburbs. It is not far from Lake Saint Clair, and several rooms have water views.

Two lakefront parks — Matthew C. Patterson Park and Neff Park — are within a mile of the property. Downtown Detroit is about 20 minutes away. Driving across the Canadian border to Windsor, Ontario, takes about half an hour.

Size: 6,682 square feet

Price per square foot: $284

Indoors: From the brick-walled street entry flanked by stone lions, iron gates open to a long driveway that leads to the house. The front door is up a few steps, behind a stone porch framed by a concrete balustrade.

The foyer is a grand space with high ceilings and a curved flying staircase. To the left is a living room with multiple windows, original woodwork and access to a sunroom with three large, arched French doors facing the manicured grounds. Also on this side of the house are a powder room and a wood-paneled study with a fireplace.

To the right of the foyer is a wood-paneled dining room with access to the sunroom. The other side of the room connects to the kitchen, which has a center island with two ovens.

Four of the five bedrooms are on the second floor. The primary suite is at one end of the upstairs hallway, with a fireplace, a bay of windows looking out into the trees and a bathroom with a jetted bathtub and a separate shower. The primary bedroom connects to a sitting room with its own full bathroom.

At the other end of the hall is an en suite guest room with enough space for a queen-size bed. Two more en suite guest rooms are off the hallway, and a laundry room with a side-by-side washer and dryer is also on this floor.

A guest apartment with a bedroom and full bathroom is on the third floor, along with a living room that could serve as additional sleeping quarters.

A media room, bar and powder room are in the finished basement.

Outdoor space: The stone patio off the sunroom is big enough for a table and chairs. The lot is planted with mature trees, and paved paths wind through grass and hedges. The detached garage holds three cars.

About half a mile from this house, at the intersection of Pico and Westwood Boulevards, is the Westside Pavilion, a former shopping mall being transformed into a mix of retail and office space for Google.

The property is a five-minute walk from Westwood Charter Elementary School and within commuting distance of many parts of the South Bay: Santa Monica, Culver City and Beverly Hills are about 20 minutes away, depending on traffic; Los Angeles International Airport and downtown Los Angeles are about a half-hour drive.

Size: 1,599 square feet

Price per square foot: $1,188

Indoors: The entrance is set back from the street, behind a gate, in a courtyard paved with Saltillo tile and surrounded by mature hedges that create a private outdoor entertaining space.

The large arched doors open directly into a living room with wood floors, exposed ceiling beams and a fireplace. Through a door in a wallpapered nook is a powder room.

The hardwood floors continue into a combined dining area and kitchen, which has quartz countertops, updated cabinetry and new stainless steel appliances, including a Thermador range.

A hallway off the living room leads to the three bedrooms at the back of the house. The primary bedroom, at the far end, has access to the backyard, as does the guest room across the hall. All three bedrooms share a bathroom with a glass-walled shower and a deep soaking tub.

The detached garage has been converted into living space, used by the sellers as a den and home office, complete with its own wet bar.

Outdoor space: In addition to the front courtyard, the property has another outdoor entertaining space: a stone patio behind the house covered by a wood pergola. The backyard beyond is landscaped with artificial turf.

Apalachicola is a small city on the Florida Panhandle, about three and a half hours by car from Jacksonville and Pensacola. One of its biggest draws is the abundance of homes from the turn of the 20th century, many restored to their original grandeur. St. George Island, a barrier island that separates Apalachicola Bay from the Gulf of Mexico, is a popular vacation destination, but fewer than 3,000 people live in the city of Apalachicola year-round.

This house is a few blocks from a public library and a grocery store, and less than a mile from restaurants, coffee shops and antiques stores in the waterfront commercial district.

Size: 3,832 square feet

Price per square foot: $483

Indoors: A long brick walkway cuts through the front lawn, leading to brick steps in the center of the covered porch and the home’s entrance.

The foyer behind the front door retains its original cypress woodwork. To the right is a parlor with porch-facing windows and a fireplace surrounded by glossy green tile. To the left is another parlor that connects to a dining room with painted-brick walls and two period-appropriate hanging light fixtures. A guest room used as a study and a full bathroom are also in this part of the house.

At the back of this level is a butler’s pantry that connects to a bright kitchen with updated cabinetry, stone counters and a center island. The adjoining breakfast area has more built-in shelving.

Two bedrooms are on the second floor, with en suite bathrooms. The primary suite is up a small flight of stairs that begins on the landing; it includes a decorative fireplace, a walk-in closet with custom storage and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub and a separate shower. A door in the bedroom opens to a widow’s walk with views of the park across the street.

Outdoor space: The wraparound front porch offers plenty of space for entertaining, with ceiling fans for steamy days. A screened porch off the kitchen serves as an outdoor parlor. The detached garage has air-conditioning and its own bathroom.

Taxes: $9,653 (estimated)
