When do supermarkets start reducing prices?

Time it right

Morrisons is known as a budget supermarket, so on any given day you’ll likely come across some kind of bargain.

But if you’re clever about exactly when you visit you could luck out on all the best offers of the week in one go.

Morrisons does the best bargains first thing in the morning, says one shopper. She told us: “The early bird gets the cheap-cheap perishables.”

Plate-Deals also recommends visiting Morrisons first thing in the morning.

And one shopper who says they work at Morrisons told The Sun the supermarket discounts items overnight so shoppers can snap up bargains first thing in the morning.

Look for the stickers

Yellow stickers are they key to a successful shop for most customers.

Supermarkets will often reduce the price of food nearing its use by date to shift stock and avoid food wastage.

Sometimes they can be marked down by as much as 80% in Morrisons.

The food is still good to eat, and in some cases you can freeze what you buy so it will last that bit longer too.

You’ll normally find the goodies confined to their own shelf and each product will have the yellow sticker slapped on telling you its new reduced price.

But they can be quickly snapped up.

One worker said that fights even erupt over the bargains, as shoppers are so desperate to grab the best deal they can.

And more and more people are getting hooked on the yellow sticker bargains, as one woman who never used to buy the expiry foods became obsessed after nabbing a chicken at Morrisons for just 43p.

Have a pit stop

Never go shopping when you’re hungry is what they say.

Everything on the shelf starts too look a little too tempting when your stomach is starting to rumble, so you might end up overloading your trolley and over-paying when it comes time to check out.

A good trick is to have a pit stop part way through your shop – and luckily you can do that without leaving the store, at a Morrisons Cafe.

The even better news is it’s a great place to bag a bargain, and could be even cheaper than treating the family to lunch before or after your shop elsewhere.

Prices start at just 99p for certain hot drinks and sides.

And often over the holidays, the supermarket will introduce deals like its feed the family for £10 deal that ran over Easter and plenty of other times in the past.

Expect the unexpected

While it’s a good idea to stick to your strict shopping list so you don’t overspend, there’s few things you can pick up in the store for a bargain price that you might not have thought to jot down.

One of those is a hot tub.

It might not be high in priority like the carrots or spuds already in the cart, but if you’d had your eye on one for a while then lucking-out on the bargain in the supermarket is perfect.

Morrisons launched the sale its own garden gadget last month.

Its Lay-Z-Spa was on sale for £300, making it almost £100 less than Aldi’s own popular £399.99 Intex tub.

The tub was only available in store though, with stock subject to availability – you still might come across the product in your local store but high demand means they have been flying off the shelves.
