Create Contact lists

If you’ve updated to the latest iOS 16 software update, you’ll be able to create contact lists.

This was previously possible via Apple iCloud, but you can now do it directly from your iPhone.

Open the Contacts app and then tap the back button in the top-left to find the Lists view.

This lets you quickly create lists of contacts.

For instance, you could create lists like Friends, Family, or Work Colleagues.

And then you can email or message them all in one go.

It’s an easy way to power up your Contacts app.

Merge your duplicate contacts

This handy iPhone hack also turned up in iOS 16 in September.

It lets you quickly and easily identify duplicate contacts – and then merge them.

Go to the Contacts app and then scroll to the top of the main All Contacts view.

If you have duplicate contacts, a pop-up will appear that reads: “X duplicates found”.

“Merging duplicate cards for a contact combines the cards, keeping all unique information in a single card for that contact,” Apple explains.

Tap View Duplicates to see them, and then merge if you need to.

If you’ve had an iPhone for a long time then it’s likely you have at least a few duplicates.

Drag contacts

In iOS 16, you can also drag and drop contacts.

For instance, you can hold down on a contact and move it to create a floating card.

This can then be dragged to one of the lists you’ve made – by using your other finger.

You can even drag these contact cards to other apps.
