SAMSUNG owners are hailing a new ‘lifesaving’ trick to preserve their battery life while they sleep.

It’s a must-know if you frequently forget to plug your phone in overnight – or, if you don’t charge your handset overnight because you know it degrades your battery in the long-term.

The trick requires Samsung's Routine feature

Phone expert @_technicallyalex on TikTok revealed the ‘sleeping’ trick to his followers.

“If you’re anything like me… you sometimes forget to plug your phone in at night to charge and then you end up waking up and your battery is really low and you’ve got to get running and you have no time to charge,” said Alex.

“I’m going to show you a really simple routine that you can enable to save you as much battery as possible.

“So, at least you’re waking up with a little bit more juice in the morning.”

The trick requires Samsung’s Routine feature, which is available on these devices: Galaxy S10, S20, S21, S22, S23, Note10, Note20, A52, Z Fold, and Z Flip series phones.

To set it up, either follow the steps in the video, or the written instructions below.

Open Settings > Modes and Routines > tap the plus icon ‘+’ to create a new routine.

You want to build your routine inside the If section – this means the routine will be triggered by a certain stimuli.

In this section, scroll down to Time Period and select a start time and end time.

“The start time should be when you go to sleep and the end time should be when you wake up,” Alex explained.

“We’re also going to select this to repeat every single day of the week.”

Once that’s completed, tap Done to finalise the first part of the new routine.

Then you want to add a second If condition via the green ‘+’ symbol.

Search for the Charging Status tab and select Not Charging and then Done.

Next, move over to the Then section and press ‘+’.

Search for Power Saving and make sure it’s set to On, then tap Done.

You can save the routine and give it a name.

“Now every night when you go to sleep if your phone is not charging it will automatically go into power saving mode to save you as much battery as possible,” added Alex.
