THERE is a hidden engineers menu that can be accessed by all Sky Q customers.
While the average joe is likely to have no idea what to do with it, there’s no harm having a poke around – but it is the key to fixing a common issue.
If you have Sky Q, the hidden engineers menu hosts some extra features, including the ability to change the Wi-Fi bands and enabling connectivity over your home’s existing powerline.
But if you’re stuck unable to open any of your apps, such as Netflix, and you’re getting an error message saying there is a problem refreshing apps – then try this tip.
Updating your software won’t do the trick on this one – although you can try to reboot your Q TV box.
To access the hidden menu, however, simply follow these steps:
- Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control.
- Scroll down to ‘Settings’ and DO NOT press select.
- Press ‘001’.
- Press ‘Select’
It should be noted that each step must be executed in quick succession.
If you have any break in between steps, it may not work.
You can always try again if it doesn’t work first time around, simply exit the menu and try again without pause between steps.

Inside the engineers menu, you can then try refreshing the apps again.
To do this, select the Apps option inside the hidden menu.
Then click Refresh all Apps on this box.
You’ll see a message that says, ‘Your apps are being refreshed’.
This will stay on screen until you press Dismiss to return to normal viewing.
It’s recommended waiting at least 5 minutes before doing so.
But refreshing your apps can take up to 24 hours to complete – so patience is key.
