A NEW ‘bumping’ feature will soon be rolled out to Facebook Messenger users globally.

But it could clog up users’ hidden Messenger inbox.

The hidden inbox can be found by opening Messenger and clicking the three horizontal lines on the top left of the screen.

There users will find the Message Request and Spam inboxes, which are usually tucked away.

Bumping a message can help remind others of something previously sent in a chat.

But it can also be used to fill your inbox with more spam.

The feature lets users bump their own or someone else’s previous message to the top of a chat.

In short, it will duplicate the message you’ve received and transform it into a reply.

Similar to other messages, people in the chat will receive notifications for bumped messages.

To bump a message in a chat, tap and hold on the message you want to bump > More > Bump.

Certain types of messages cannot currently be bumped, such as polls, location sharing details, and missed calls.

But the feature is currently only accessible to Android users, after being introduced to beta testers last year.

Bumping messages will also not work on end-to-end encrypted chats, according to Facebook.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, earlier this month gave more Messenger users access end-to-end encryption.

It’s a controversial feature which can help boost privacy for users, which now a wider selection of beta testers have access to.
