ONE of the best things about buying physical games over digital ones is that you can share and sell them.

Once you’ve finished this year’s biggest releases you can sell it back to stores, get some money back, and pick up another new game.

Most people will still be able to sell, swap and share their games.

You can also share or swap your discs with friends, giving you the ability to play more games.

However, a message has been circling on social media from PlayStation’s Terms of Service which has been shocking fans.

The statement reads: “You must not resell either disc-based games or digital games unless expressly authorised by us.

“And, if the publisher is another company, additionally by the publisher.”

People started sharing this part of the Terms of Service, believing it to be a new addition.

However, this has long been the policy and is also in the terms of service at other companies like Xbox and Nintendo.

Some people posted pictures of their old copies of Final Fantasy, showing the same wording on the back of the box.

The way the terms are worded makes it seems as if the ‘no resell’ policy applies to everyone, but it is more about the specific authorisation.

Individuals are authorised to resell their games and even share them with their friends.

The policy is aimed at companies who purchase in bulk to resell or rent games which requires a special licence.

It is also aimed at scalpers who bulk buy rare games and hardware in order to drive up the price on storefronts like ebay and Facebook Marketplace.

For the average consumer this policy does not impact the way they can resell and share games.

A senior executive at Sony, Shuhei Yoshida, clarified on Twitter, “If you are concerned about our new European TOS, we confirm that you are able to sell or share your disc PS4 products, including in EU.”
