The subscription feature, which is being tested internally, was first revealed on Twitter by a trusted leaker named Alessandro Paluzzi.

A spokesperson for Snap, the company that owns the social media app, confirmed the plans on Thursday.

Snapchat+ would cost 4.59 euros for a one-month subscription or 45.99 euros for one year, according to screenshots shared by Paluzzi.

The tech guru, who regularly reveals apps’ upcoming features, is a mobile developer and reserve engineer according to his Twitter bio.

Paluzzi said that subscribers would get access to “exclusive, experimental and pre-release features”.

Examples include the ability to pin conversations, access to custom icons and more.

It would be the first subscription product for Snapchat, which lets users post content stories, play games and scroll through a TikTok-like feature called Spotlight.

Should the plans come to fruition, it would become one of the first social media apps to add subscription tiers.

In June 2021, Twitter launched Twitter Blue, a monthly subscription that offers exclusive access to premium features.

It is available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The move comes as social media giants scramble to find new ways to make money amid intensifying competition and regulatory scrutiny.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Facebook is plotting to resurrect a popular feature of its app that it binned years ago – sort of.

According to a report, Meta, the company that owns the platform, wants to reintegrate Messenger back into Facebook’s main app.

The pair were detached in 2014, with Messenger becoming its own distinct app that users had to install on their devices separately.

The plot to mash them back together again was revealed in a memo from a Facebook executive published by The Verge on Wednesday.

The memo, from Tom Alison who heads up the Facebook app at Meta, urged employees to make the app more like TikTok.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has publicly blamed his creation’s recent stagnation on the meteoric rise of the Chinese video platform.
