It’s possible to make the torch much brighter or dimmer.

This can be handy if you need a bit more light in the dark – or if you need to reduce it because it’s too bright.

One Reddit thread about the trick posted as a “public service announcement” to iPhone owners received hundreds of upvotes.

A grateful user replied: “Yay! I learned something new.”

Another said: “It took me a few months to realize this and my flashlight was set to the lowest level at first, maybe by mistake.

“One day I was trying to light a spot for my brother-in-law in his car at night and it just seemed suuuuper dark.

“I pressed the button on the control center in a glimpse of hope that there would be a menu there and there was! That was a good day.”

It’s easy to do and only takes a few seconds.

How to change iPhone torch brightness

To change your iPhone’s torch brightness, you’ll need to access the Control Centre.

On an iPhone with Face ID, that means swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.

And if you’ve got an iPhone with a Home Button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen instead.

Now press and hold on the torch button.

Then you can simply drag the slider up or down to choose the level of brightness that you want.

It’ll stay set like this until you next change it – even if you turn your torch off and on again.

Other iPhone torch tricks

That’s not the only iPhone torch trick that you’ll want to try.

For instance, you can control the torch using Apple’s Hey Siri.

Simply say “Hey Siri, turn on the torch” or “Hey Siri, turn on the flashlight”.

And you can turn it off the same way.

Harry Potter fans will be entertained by the fact that you can issue the same commands as spells from the magical franchise.

Just say “Hey Siri, Lumos” to turn the torch on – and then utter “Hey Siri, Nox” to switch it off again.

Another quick way to turn the torch off from the Lock Screen is to simply swipe left very slightly and then release.

This briefly activates the camera app, which instantly shuts off the torch.
