XBOX spent a long time looking for its niche over PlayStation, and finally it seems to have found it with the Xbox Series X|S.

By offering two styles of console to fans, it lets people pick the one that fits in perfectly with their budget.

Gamers can either go with the low cost Series S, that has less power and no disc drive but comes in at half the price, or buy the Series X with all the bells and whistles.

Xbox Game Pass further helps people mix and match their playstyles, as gamers can have a Series S with Game Pass for less intensive games, and also a PS5 for more intensive games.

The Series S and Xbox Game Pass combined make for a compelling package, but Xbox seemingly wants to expand this model.

As reported by GameSpot, Xbox’s chief financial officer Tim Stuart announced plans to expand Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit.

He said: “It’s a bit of a change of strategy. Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences [and] our subscription services to every screen that can play games.

“That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo.”

“A bit of a change of strategy” is a massive understatement as Xbox has famously made its first-party games PC and Xbox console exclusive.

For example, Bethesda’s massive open-world space adventure Starfield was originally planned to release on PlayStation, but became exclusive to Xbox consoles after Microsoft purchased the studio.

PlayStation revamped the way its PS Plus service works back in June 2022 to more closely resemble Xbox Game Pass.

Game Pass has proven hugely successful with players, though it is unclear if PS Plus has been able to recreate that success.
