XBOX has announced that a new update will be coming to consoles that could cost players money.

The update will remove key features from the console and prevent players from using many Xbox purchases.

Not only is Xbox removing compatibility with many accessories, but it has given users just two weeks to adjust to the change.

From Sunday, November 12, 2023, unlicensed third-party Xbox controllers will no longer work with the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

This means that most third-party controllers – devices that were not made or authorised by Xbox – will not work in two weeks.

The exception to this will be licensed controllers, which should feature the Xbox licensing on the packaging.

More in Xbox

There are a number of accessories that Xbox doesn’t produce itself, which will no longer work after the update.

This includes a number of controllers that are focused on accessibility, fight sticks, and steering wheels.

The change is reportedly being made as Xbox wants to licence more third-party products to make more revenue from the market.

However, this will be detrimental to Xbox players who own these controllers and accessories.

A new error is showing for these players as they try to use their existing third-party controllers.

It reads: “A connected accessory is not authorised. Using unauthorised accessories compromises your gaming experience.

“For this reason, the unauthorised accessory will be blocked from use on 11/12/2023.

“For help returning it, check with the store it came from or contact the manufacturer. To see authorised accessories, go to www.xbox.com/accessories. (0x82d60002).”

Third-party retailers say they are working on software solutions to keep their products working after this date, but there is no guarantee that a solution will be found.
