XBOX boss Phil Spencer has promised that the company will turn the embattled Redfall around, after the game launched to middling reviews and lacklustre reception.

Redfall was released earlier this week on the Xbox Series X|S and PC, but fans weren’t happy with the game’s state at launch.

The game has a number of bugs and issues on both Xbox and PC, and runs at just 30fps on both Xbox consoles, with a 60fps mode said to be coming well after launch.

It has also been criticised for being somewhat boring, with some gamers saying the story wasn’t very interesting and the gunplay and stealth mechanics were lacking.

Characters are also seemingly broken, with one character in particular being able to skip past most boss fights in the game without fighting.

Because of that, Redfall has a Metacritic score of just 59, far below most other high profile games released this year.

Now, Phil Spencer says developer Arkane and the rest of the team at Xbox are working on fixes for the game, vowing to turn it around.

Spencer said: “The team at Arkane is taking the near-term feedback. We’re still working on the 60fps update.

“We have a good timeline for that [and] we’re gonna continue to work on the game. We’ve shown a commitment to games like Sea of Thieves and Grounded to continue to go and build games.”

Spencer finished by saying: “I also know these games are $70, and I’m gonna take full responsibility for launching a game that needs to be great.”

Redfall is expected to get a number of updates in the coming weeks and months, fixing the outstanding issues and adding new content such as more playable characters.

It could be tough to get people to come back though, as there are a number of high profile releases set to be released this year.

Starfield will be released in September as another Xbox and PC exclusive game, and many gamers are excited for the game and may not return to older games like Redfall.
