INSTAGRAM is one of the most popular social media platforms in 2022 with over one billion monthly users.
However, users of the platform are logging onto the app to find that their Instagram has suddenly turned black – here’s everything you need to know.
Why is my Instagram black?
It appears that the social media platform is experiencing a glitch, as reports of the error aren’t limited to a certain mobile device or carrier.
This is likely caused by the recent update and the frequent use of a large number of users on the app which could be a contributing factor.
This is why some of the biggest social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have gone down in the past.
Instagram users usually get to choose whether they want a black or white background, but the app has turned to dark mode for many who had chosen to have it white.

Naturally, many users took to Twitter to express their confusion, with one user writing: “Anyone else on Instagram in this full-screen mode? And dark mode? How do I remove this?”
Another user said: “Why is my news feed suddenly in dark mode? Please tell me how to get it back!”

How to turn off dark mode on Instagram
There is no way to change your Instagram’s colour settings within the app as it is determined by your phone settings.
If your IOS or Android device is on light mode, Instagram will appear white and vice versa.

To change your settings on an IOS device, head to Settings > Display & Brightness and there will be a blue tick in either Light or Dark.
Try to change your settings to the opposite setting and back as this may fix your Instagram background.
Unfortunately, if you’ve tried this and your phone is set to light mode but your Instagram is still appearing black, it may be stuck like this.
