MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU is another movie in the Despicable Me series which was released in early June and shows how Gru started his route down the evil pathway with the Minion trio Kevin, Stuart and Bob.
The film brought along a new TikTok trend for teenage boys and made some cinemas take serious action in order to put an end to it.
Why is ‘Gentleminions’ trending on TikTok?
Teenage boys are going to the cinema to watch the new Despicable Me movie, Minions: The Rise of Gru.
They arrive in large groups while wearing full formal attire which include a suit and tie and copy the main character, supervillian Felonius Gru, and his signature hand gesture.
In the trending videos, groups celebrate the five-year film wait while they eat bananas as a snack during the movie, which are the Minions’ favourite food.
The trend emerged after Sony’s Morbius was given a lot of positive feedback by the public but negative reviews by critics.
Universal Pictures are happy that fans created such trend for the film, as they tweeted: “To everyone showing up to @Minions in suits: we see you and we love you.”
The Minions Twitter page also responded positively to the trend, and created the name for the it: “The Gentleminions.”
On the other hand, cinemas are not thrilled with the disruptive behaviour during screenings, as the large groups cheer and clap while the film is playing.
This led some cinemas to ban anyone who shows up with such formalwear to view the movie.

The Regal wrote on Twitter: “We are currently not admitting unaccompanied children wearing suits for ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’.
“This is due to the issues we have encountered over the last two days and it’s associated behaviour.”
What other Minions TikTok trends are there?
On TikTok, one can find the Minion Cult.
A cult might sound like something daunting, but on TikTok, it is something lighter than that.
It is simply a way for a fan base to get together on TikTok and help users to generate more followers that like the same content.
Those part of the Minion cult, change their profile picture to someone dressed up in a Minions costume.
Some users also add: “minion cult,” to their TikTok bios and encourage other cult members to follow them too.
