If you had £1million to spend and it could only go on one of these two properties, which one would you choose?

That is the question we are asking in our latest property battle series. We pick two very different homes with contrasting specifications, including size and location but with similar price tags.

This week, we have a one-bedroom flat in London with a £7,000 a year service charge which is ‘handy for Harrods’ versus a Georgian family home in a Nottinghamshire village that comes with half an acre of garden.

Which of the two homes for sale, listed on property website Zoopla, would you choose?

The first is a one-bedroom flat in London’s affluent Knightsbridge which is 150 metres from the tube station.

The property is leasehold and has a substantial service charge of around £7,000 a year.

It is being sold by estate agents Stanley Chelsea, which describes the flat as ‘handy for Harrods’.

The property needs updating, but could be transformed into a ‘fantastic Knightsbridge pied-a-terre’, according to the agent.

The average price of a property in Knightsbridge is £2.8million, nine times the average for the country as a whole, which stands at £322,758, according to Zoopla.

Daniel Copley, of Zoopla, said: ‘This Knightsbridge apartment is located right on the doorstep of Harrods and the restaurants of nearby Sloane Square.

‘It’s the perfect investment for a buyer looking for an enviable address in central London and a home that they can truly make their own.’

The property is called The Old Bakehouse and it is a Grade II listed Georgian family home with outbuildings, set in half an acre of land.

It is the first time that the property has been on the market in more than 50 years and it is for sale via estate agents FHP Living.

The agent highlights the extensive garden, saying: ‘The gardens have been created and maintained very much as a cottage garden from the beautiful manicured small front garden with its feature topiary, to the well managed Victorian ivy and rambling roses which climb the walls of both the house and outbuildings.’
