A SERIOUSLY handy new type of text is under development at WhatsApp.

The Meta-owned chat app is working on a new feature that you’ll be able to use in group conversations.

It’s called Polls and (unsurprisingly) lets you create and share polls inside group chats.

WhatsApp has been developing the feature for a while, but progress is ramping up.

The tech experts at WABetaInfo have been digging into the beta version of WhatsApp, and have found a new addition to the feature.

In the latest version of the WhatsApp beta for iPhone, you can now search your chats for polls.

This works in the same way as search filters for unread messages, photos, videos and more.

We’ve been hearing about WhatsApp polls for months, but they’re still not available in the live version of the app.

They’ll let you quickly quiz your mates: maybe “where should we go for food tonight?” or “what do you think of the new Marvel movie?”

Sadly, there’s no release date just yet.

It could take days, weeks or even months for polls to land on your phone.

In its current form, you can share polls with other members in a group chat.

And you can add up to 12 options on the poll.

You’ll be able to access the feature through the “chat action” page, where you’d also choose to send documents, locations or contact profiles.

Thankfully it’s possible to try polls right now if you download the beta.

Follow our guide below to get all of the new WhatsApp features first.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Joining the WhatsApp beta on iOS is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
