WHATSAPP is loaded with a bunch of handy shortcuts that make jazzing up your texts a whole lot easier.

The codes allow you to format your texts within seconds – adding a strikethrough to words, for instance, or bolding key sections of the message.

It’s a handy way to quickly change up the look of your text – or parts of it – in order to help them stand out.

Of course, you can always make these changes by simply highlighting the text in the text field.

You can then tap the highlighted text and format it from there.

That’s now as quick (and fun), however, as using the various shortcuts we’ve included below.

As well as bolding and strikethrough options, you can use them to italicise or monospace your messages.

Give the codes below a try – you never know, they might just turn out to be useful.

Italic

To italicize your message, place an underscore on both sides of the text:

_text_

Bold

To bold your message, place an asterisk on both sides of the text:

*text*

Strikethrough

To strikethrough your message, place a tilde on both sides of the text:

~text~

Monospace

To monospace your message, place three backticks on both sides of the text:

“`text“`

Other ways to format

You can also perform these actions using shortcuts on Android and iPhone.

  • Android: Tap and hold the text in the text field, then choose BoldItalic, or More. Tap More to choose Strikethrough or Monospace.
  • iPhone: Tap the text in the text field > Select or Select All > B_I_U. Then, choose BoldItalicStrikethrough, or Monospace.

In other news, Facebook has announced that it’s changing its name to “Meta”.

The company is working to create lifelike avatars of its users that they can control in a virtual world called the “metaverse”.

Apple’s system that exposes creepy iPhone apps that track your location or snoop on your browsing history has finally arrived.

And, astronomers claim to have spotted the first known planet outside of the Milky Way.
