INSTAGRAM has a new feature that lets users keep track of all of the different posts and profiles you’ve viewed while endlessly scrolling.

It’s been designed to stop you from losing those precious photos that you might have only glimpsed at but may want to find again.

UPDATE – new head right, new off-platform, new intro, new top pic, style like an explainer under these subheads: 1)

What is Instagram’s ‘Posts You’ve Seen’ feature?

The app moves at a fast pace, so Instagram seemingly wants to make it easier to keep track of the content you enjoy.

The feature was first spotted by social media consultant and Instagram boffin Matt Navarra, with help from tech site WABetaInfo.

Instagram’s feature is an answer to a problem that has long plagued the app.

When Instagram displayed posts in time order, it was easy to find posts you’d previously seen – just by scrolling down.

But now Instagram shows posts based on an algorithm, taking them out of time order.

This means you can glimpse a post, and then struggle to find it again later.

Similarly, you might end up on someone’s profile and forget to follow them, only to find yourself searching for them again down the line.

The “Posts You’ve Seen” feature would keep a track of photos, videos and profiles you’d viewed, displaying them in a list.

If you have it, it’ll appear between Saved and Shopping Bag in your Instagram settings.

Where do I find the ‘Posts You’ve Seen’ feature on Instagram?

According to Navarra, the feature is in “testing” right now, so won’t appear for all users.

He explains that it “shows any posts or profiles you’ve viewed in your feed”.

The bad news is that Instagram isn’t guaranteed to roll out any of these features for all users.

Instagram regularly tests features, but not all of them make it into the live public version of the app.

It’s possible that Instagram might receive bad feedback about the feature and scrap it entirely.

What other features does Instagram have?

According to Navarra, Instagram is also working on creating other activity-tracking features.

These include “Posts You’ve Commented On” and “Posts You’ve Sent”.

They are also looking to revamp current features to make them more accessible to users.

Users previously had to meet a follower threshold to link out via stories but a new update means smaller accounts will be able to link out in their own stories.

Some of Instagram’s top new features are:

  • Share link on Instagram stories for everybody
  • Favourites and chronological order of posts
  • New safety features: Take a break, Parental Controls
  • Delete a specific photo in a Carousel
  • Add Yours Sticker to create public thread in Instagram stories
  • “Collab” option in feed posts and reels
  • Upload photos and videos via desktop
  • Map search
  • More Protection of Teen Accounts on Instagram
  • A new “audio” tab for discovering reels that feature your song
