The company uses blockchain technology to reward players for gaming.

But the play-to-earn gaming model which rewards gamers with cryptocurrency for playing isn’t technically free.

Gamers could have to spend $1,000 or more in order to start earning in the Axie Infinity universe.

The popular platform for play-to-earn gaming requires beginners to have three “Axies,” which are available for purchase on the game’s Marketplace Dashboard.

Participants can then earn cryptocurrency for selling potions, breeding rare Axies, and playing various games.

Jawad Ashraf, CEO, Terra Virtua – a start-up developing its own metaverse and driving play-to-earn gaming – told The Sun: “It’s possible to make a living in play-to-earn games through gaining in-game rewards for playing.

“Axie Infinity has legions of fans, including regions where large portions of the population are ‘unbanked’, there are limited employment options and they can make more through playing play-to-earn games than in traditional employment.

“Players can also form or join guilds where they can borrow or rent in-game characters, playing for rewards and sharing profits.

“Games like Axie Infinity, Nitro League and other play-to-earn games are paving the way and creating entirely new economies, it’s something we’re going to see lots more of in the future.”

Josh Sandhu co-founder of Quantus Gallery – Europe’s first NFT advisory – told The Sun: “The play-to-earn model isn’t something particularly new, but it’s certainly something that is becoming more of a popular model for some in the space.

“Axie Infinity is just one of a multitude at this point and I think the mere fact that you can be rewarded in monetary value for a piece of entertainment is a huge selling point.”
