During the 2019 Australian Open, Marina sustained an eye injury due to a champagne bottle malfunction. Apparently, she was holding the bottle which unexpectedly exploded and caused an eye injury.
She was immediately taken to the hospital and underwent eye surgery. It was financially covered by the tournament director Craig Tiley.
Later, Dayana won the Hua Hin Championship and dedicated it to her mother.
