Gunfire erupted early Monday morning at a gathering in Harlem. Around nine people got shot in the firing where a basketball player Darius Lee tragically lost his life.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at East 139th Street and Fifth Avenue around 12:40 a.m., according to the New York Police Department.
Authorities arrived and discovered five people with gunshot wounds on a footpath along FDR Highway. The firing took place just under the Madison Avenue Bridge.
They were taken to a nearby hospital. Four more people were taken to the hospital.

The spokesperson for his college identified the man who got killed in Harlem Shooting as Darius Lee. The director of media relations for the Houston Baptist University athletics program, Jeff Sutton released a statement confirming the news.
Furthermore, Sutton also mentioned that a rising senior at the Texas school majoring in sports management, Lee was a star of the basketball team. Darius who had been a senior upcoming season was the leading returning scorer.
St. Raymond High School for Boys from where Lee graduated in 2019 also released a statement after his demise. They wrote that the news of his death has left the community devastated and heartbroken.
The school further added apart from being an amazing basketball player, he was a phenomenal human being who was living such a positive life.
One of the eyewitnesses saw the shooting ringing out from her living room.

Darius Lee was only 21 years old when he tragically lost his life in a mass shooting. Lee who was residing in New York went to St. Mark the Evangelist School.
Lee had a long way to go and he was on scholarship at HBUBasketball. Chris Williams, the former assistant coach mentioned that he was a basketball star.

The mourning family of Darius Lee has stayed away from social media, as of now. They haven’t released any statements regarding the incident or the funeral details.
On the other hand, his family and people who knew him at some point have been pouring tributes to the deceased on their Facebook. They described him as a great teammate and a hardworking man.
Is The Suspect Arrested?
The authorities are still looking for the suspect of the mass shooting that happened in Harlem, New York.
While the motive for the shooting is still being investigated, NYPD Deputy Chief Brian McGee believes it occurred at a barbecue or “something of that nature.”
He also stated that a handgun was found at the scene. It did not, however, provide any information about potential suspects. They have urged any witnesses to come forward with any information.
Though there were so many people on the scene, they have to find any clue which would help them find the suspect.
