This small cottage is in a seasonal colony on Cape Cod, open from April 1 to Nov. 30. Many colony residents rent out their cottages, which are especially in demand during the summer months. This house, which has propane heat and a window air-conditioning unit, is being sold furnished.

Shopping and dining are about a five-minute drive, in downtown Wellfleet. Several popular beaches are five to 10 minutes away, including Marconi Beach and Lecount Hollow Beach, on the Atlantic coastline. Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, is a 20-minute drive.

The bedroom is off the living room, with floral wallpaper and enough space for a double bed. The bathroom has a stall shower and more knotty pine walls.

Outdoor space: A small garden is at the front of the house, behind a low, white picket fence. Next to it is a patio big enough for a cafe table and chairs. A sandy path leads to Drummer Cove, a saltwater estuary surrounded by a pine forest.

Like many cities along the Ohio River, Follansbee sprang up around a steel mill. The mill in this case was owned by the brothers John and Robert Follansbee, for whom the city is named. Today, this part of West Virginia draws residents who work in Pittsburgh, about an hour away, and Steubenville, Ohio, about 15 minutes away.

This house is a few blocks from a post office, an antiques store and the Police and Fire Departments on Main Street. Morgantown, home of West Virginia University, is about 90 minutes away. Charleston, W.Va., the state capital, is a three-and-a-half-hour drive.

Size: 2,533 square feet

Price per square foot: $120

Indoors: Once part of a family farm, this house now sits behind a wide lawn, with a paved driveway leading from the street to the entrance.

The front door is in the middle of a wide, covered porch, and opens into a foyer with ornate woodwork and a paneled staircase original to the house. To the left is a sunny living room connected by original pocket doors to a formal dining room. Both rooms have hardwood floors and fireplaces that have been converted from wood-burning to gas by the sellers.

Off the dining room and the main hallway is a spacious kitchen with hardwood floors, original built-in cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances. Also on this level is a combined bathroom and laundry room, with a washer and dryer and a stall shower.

All four bedrooms are upstairs. The primary bedroom is at the top of the stairs, with white painted floors and windows overlooking the surrounding greenery. Across the hall is a guest room currently used as a sitting room, with a bay of windows overlooking the front yard. At the other end of the hallway are two more guest rooms, both with white painted floors. All four bedrooms share an updated bathroom with a claw-foot tub and a walk-in shower.

There is also a small home office on this level that holds a desk and bookshelf.

Outdoor space: The lawns behind and in front of the house are wide and framed by mature trees. The detached garage has three parking spots, as well as space for storage and a workshop.

Taxes: $1,920 (estimated)

This house is in Trolley Square, a bustling, walkable neighborhood with an ACME Markets grocery, a branch of the local coffee chain Brew HaHa! and several restaurants, including an oyster house with a raw bar and a luncheonette that has been in operation for more than 50 years. Several Italian restaurants are also nearby, in Little Italy, as is a Romanesque Revival Catholic church.

Downtown Wilmington and the train station are 10 minutes away. Philadelphia is less than 30 minutes away by rail from downtown, or 45 minutes by car; Baltimore is an hour’s train ride from downtown or an hour and a half drive.

Size: 1,325 square feet

Price per square foot: $226

Indoors: Steps lead from the sidewalk up to a covered porch big enough to hold rocking chairs or a bench.

Behind the front door is a living room with a wall of exposed brick, two porch-facing windows and hardwood floors that continue into a dining area with a built-in curio cabinet and side-facing windows.

At the back of the house is an updated kitchen with granite counters, a new tile backsplash, an electric cooktop and a door to the rear deck.

From the living room, a staircase rises to the three bedrooms and bathroom on the second floor. The primary bedroom and guest room next door have hardwood floors; the guest room at the end of the hall is carpeted. All three share an updated bathroom with new tile floors and a walk-in shower.

Outdoor space: The new rear deck, made from a durable composite material, has plenty of room for a sectional sofa, dining table and barbecue. It steps down to a grassy backyard, surrounded by a wood fence, that has room for a small garden.
