OWNERS of a home dubbed a real-life Hobbit House are raging after being forced to tear down it’s unique wooden cladding.
Jay and Sally Pritchard, owners of the home in Paignton, Devon, have pleaded with the Torbay Council planning department to listen to the public support for the home’s distinctive feature.

The property has fondly become known as the ‘Hobbit House’ on social media.
Local residents say they often see children stop and stare at the whimsical house.
Torbay Council, meanwhile, says it is working to resolve the issues around the house.
Admirers flocked to the Spotted Paignton Facebook page to admire the home, with one saying: “My kids and I love this place, it always draws a crowd of admirers.
“The owners put out cool things and decorations for Christmas, Easter, Halloween and any other reason they can think of, while growing apples and strawberries on the banks for the kids to scrump.
“This is a very cool spot, lovingly owned by good people. Thank you to them for this wonderful sight and experience they have added to the area.”

Those opposing the council’s intervention argue that the removal of the cladding will strip the home of its character, resulting in a “boring rendered building”.

Addressing those offering support, Mr and Mrs Pritchard said: “Thank you so much for all that you are doing.
“We have asked planners to reconsider and listen to public opinion, to leave the exterior of the building just as it is.”
A decision on the Hobbit House is expected next month.
A Torbay Council spokesman said: “We are proactively working with the applicant to resolve the issues raised through the planning process.”
