LOCALS who moved to the UK city with the best quality of life say they love living there – but it’s hiding an annoying secret.

Edinburgh recently came out on top in a survey exploring the best places to live.

The Scottish capital reportedly has the most affordable housing, best commute times and overall higher rates of happiness.

And while residents from all areas of the city enjoy being there, many feel there is one thing which definitely gets on their nerves.

Ben Smyth, 29, who lives in Stockbridge said there is great community-feel.

He told The Sun Online: “I’ve been in Edinburgh for 18 months but I think it’s brilliant.

“I moved down for my job. There’s park runs and a real sense of community despite Edinburgh being a big city.

“I like heading out for drinks with friends or going out for a meal with my partner.

“It’s a great city and is very friendly – I’m excited for the start of the Fringe [Festival] to be really immersed in Edinburgh fully.”

Peter Letz, 35, added: “It’s nice, a very nice place, a beautiful city.

“I always get a good kind of vibe, I love the way you’re in a city but still within nature.

“The people are very nice, during weekend or days off I like to spend time with friends.

“I try to discover new places, last time I was with my friend we went to Portobello and it was lovely – a beautiful place.

“There’s not a lot I dislike about Edinburgh, maybe sometimes the weather isn’t the best.”

However, some told of how the public transport isn’t very good for such a big place.

Charlotte Davies, 24, from Leith, moved to Edinburgh from the south of England for university.

She said her only issue is with the transport links.

She said: “I love Edinburgh. I came from down south for uni and I’ve never really left.

“It is amazing and there’s so much to do – you can go for wanders in one of the parks or head up to Arthur’s Seat.

“It’s also possible to go out for dinner in Leith which feels different to the city centre.

“My only issue with Edinburgh is how long the trams have taken.

“It’s been ages but it’s exciting that they are almost completed.”

Student Benat Yanez, 20, agreed and said it can be “hard to predict”.

He said: “It’s a pretty nice city, I really like the architecture.

“I also like the parks being close together so it’s really easy to walk to places quickly.

“I love going to Arthur’s Seat and also spending time here in the Meadows.

“I don’t love that there are always roadworks going on, the buses are always late because of that.

“Public transport just becomes hard to predict.”

The survey ranking Edinburgh number one found the cheap way of life was important for people when deciding where to live.

The Totaljobs Quality of Living Index found 18-34 year olds in the UK had a high level of dissatisfaction and that 75% are considering relocation.

Plymouth and Glasgow took second and third spots, with London only just making the top 10.
