FED-UP residents living next to one of the UK’s busiest roundabouts have called for change.

The desperate locals claim there is so much traffic that dust blankets their cars, homes and even stains their curtains.

Located on the outskirts of Leeds, the notorious roundabout connects the Ring Road, the A64 and Barwick Road, which helps drivers access major routes across the city.

The residential area around Seacroft Roundabout is described as a “relaxed mowing” by the council.

But Ron Dixon, who has lived on the street for 40 years, would strongly disagree.

The grandfather-of-six told Leeds Live: “What does worry me is the pollution.

“I’ve got asthma. If we leave the upstairs windows open, the curtains get stains on them.

“Plus, there’s a lot of dust in the house and sometimes it can feel a bit oily.

“Sometimes I stand at the gate and can see traffic coming up from York Road and they’re coming around it at 40 miles an hour.

“They can see there’s a roundabout! Why are they doing that? It doesn’t help anybody.”

Another concerned local, Ann Kershaw, also slammed inconsiderate motorists who speed through the area.

Th 62-year-old claimed the issue is so bad it leaves her in a state of anxiety every time she has to walk her nine-year-old Husky-Akita Tia.

“It’s so busy, so much so that just recently there was an accident,” the grandmother-of-one added.

“There are a lot of bikers and boy racers who speed around it.

“They use this road as a racing track. The traffic is quite heavy.

“I must admit when Tia goes by the side of it, I feel very wary in case a car leaves the road. It feels quite precarious.”

But, one resident, DJ Sammy ‘Dreadlocks’ Glynn, offered a slightly different opinion.

The 61-year-old said: “To be honest with you, I like it. To me, this is the countryside of the city.

“I don’t mind a bit of peace and quiet. But it’s nice to hear a bit of life, I don’t mind it. I get to see lots of vehicles.

“We see horse and carts, as there are some travellers who live nearby, funeral parlours and everything.”

The grandfather-of-five explained while there is a lot of noise heard in the front garden, it is peaceful inside and in the evening.

Leeds City Council has been contacted for comment.
