RESIDENTS of the UK’s ‘best value village’, with house prices just a third of those nearby, have explained why they love it there.
The people of St Eval, Cornwall, say it is an “ace community”, sitting just five minutes from the stunning South West coastline.

Jade Wyles, who moved to the area from Wiltshire 23 years ago, told Cornwall Live: “It’s a fab place to bring children up.
“The primary school is very good and everyone looks out for each other.”
It certainly helps that property is extremely cheap there, especially compared to the surrounding areas.
In nearby Padstow, the average house price is £848,518, while in St Eval it’s £304,158, according to Rightmove.
Fellow local Sally Heslop said: “This is a nice place to live.
“I couldn’t afford to live in Padstow or on the coast even though house prices have gone up here too in 14 years.
“St Eval is a great community. [It’s] a very safe place to live.”
The village is a minor commercial hub too, with Rick Stein’s Cornish operations headquartered there as well as regional sweet producer Kernow Chocolate.

Dorothy Sutherland, who runs a charity shop in the village, also praised its community spirit, using the example of locals shopping for older residents during the pandemic.
She moved down from Manchester in 1994 and said she has no desire to return.
Other people remarked how “lovely” the people are in the area and one visitor, Sophie Braithwaite, even said it was the “last affordable bit before the coast”.
As well as the usual shops, there is an RAF base, which housed American soldiers during the war, and a go-karting track.
All those things, as well as how close it is to the beach, mean that there’s something for everyone in the little community.
It comes after we revealed a stunning seaside village you’ve probably never heard of, despite it being named one of the UK’s best.
Meanwhile, one group of residents explained how they never feel cut off from the rest of the world, despite living in a village of just 10 houses.
