A COUPLE have shared how they doubled the value of their home in just four years through DIY renovations.
Nick and Nicky Pullee, from Snowdonia, Wales, saved around £30,000 by doing the work to turn a run-down cottage into a stunning family home.

The pair paid £175,000 for the “uninhabitable” property in 2018 but after recent upgrades the value is estimated at £300,000, leaving in a far “better financial position”.
Building on the existing grounds and using leftover materials like quarry stone, they have created a cosy and homely cottage, complete with a brand new extension.
They even dug the footing for the extension by hand along with builders, as well as helping to stack bricks and lay slate tiles.
Unbelievably at just £30,000 for materials and labour, the extension was the most expensive part of the renovation, with the rest done for just over half that.
According to the couple, the cottage had no bathroom or heating when they bought it and was in bad shape.
“We renovated our previous cottage back in 2004-2006 which definitely helped us with this new renovation. We’d learnt from previous mistakes,” they said.

The kitchen, which had rotting walls and peeling wallpaper has now had underfloor heating and new plaster put in.
With backgrounds in art, both Nick and Nicky were able to map put the new design for their home. “
“We’re both creative people, I have a degree in photography and Nick went to art college,” said Nicky.
She added: “I love all the flow of colour throughout, and the feeling of space created by the vaulted ceiling, whilst maintaining the history and character of the property.
“It is a small period cottage which is cosy but spacious with everything needed for modern comfortable living.”
Given that they only spent £50,000 to fix the house up, they have been left with a tidy profit of around £75,000.
They documented the whole process on their Instagram account, which they use to share tips and tricks for DIY renovation.

The couple already have their next project lined up – after a well-earned rest.
“For now, we are going to sit back and enjoy our work, but are looking to update and renovate our cottage next door to the same standard now that we are in a better financial situation.”
