EXTRA bank holidays this Christmas and New Year may affect Waitrose opening times.

Most shops and supermarkets will be closed for certain days in order to give staff some much-needed time off.

Tuesday December 27 is a Bank Holiday as Christmas Day falls on a Saturday this year.

Plus January 2 will also be a public holiday.

So when is Waitrose open over Christmas?

When is Waitrose open of the festive period?

Waitrose will be shut on Christmas and Boxing day with the exception of those in Welcome Break motorway service stations and Shell forecourts.

Normal trading normal hours will resume between December 27 and New Year.

This will vary from shop to shop, so make sure you check the Waitrose website for the latest on your local branch.

Waitrose shops have standard opening hours across the country, but they can sometimes vary depending on where you live.

But most other high street retailers are operating as normal.

Are other shops open on the bank holiday?

Most other retailers will be closing on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Asda

Asda is closing its stores on Christmas Day.

Most stores will then reopen on Boxing Day between 9am and 6pm.

Then on Tuesday, December 27 from 8am to 8pm.

From Wednesday 28 to Thursday 29, normal opening hours will resume.

Lidl

Lidl will close all its stores on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

From December 27 to 30 most of its shops will be open from 8am to 10pm.

On New Year’s Eve they’ll close a bit earlier at 7pm.

Then on January 2 shops will be open at 8am until 8pm.

Of course, times can vary from store to store so it might be worth ringing your local Lidl to find out.

Tesco

Tesco will close its stores on Christmas Day.

Larger stores will be shutting up shop earlier on Christmas Eve at 6pm, with Express stores staying open until 10pm.

On Boxing Day, Tesco Extras and superstores are open from 9am to 6pm.

Most Express shops will close at 7pm and some larger ones will close at 6pm.

On December 27, extras and superstores will open at 8am and close at 8pm.

The majority of Express stores are open for normal trading hours, with 24-hour stores opening at 6am.

Sainsbury’s

All Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be closed on Christmas Day.

The majority will then be open on Boxing Day between 10am and 5pm.

On December 27, most are open from 8am to 8pm, but opening hours will vary by store, so it is best to check the store locator on the website.

For the rest of the week on December 28, 29 and 30, most stores will trade their normal hours.

On New Year’s Eve, the majority of Sainsbury’s shops will be open from 7am to 7pm and convenience stores will be closing at 9pm.

The next day (January 1), most supermarkets will be open between 10am and 4pm.

Convenience stores will be trading between 9am and 9pm.

Opening hours can vary though, so Sainsbury’s advises customers to check the website for the latest details for their area.
